From a diary record to a simulated day

In one sentence
The strategic model supplies who, what, which zone and which period; the simulation adds exact place, exact time and consistent tours.
Why it matters
One row of a synthetic population: person and household attributes, home zone, a primary tour with its activity, destination zone, mode and period, a stop after work, a secondary tour. The simulation adds an exact location inside the zone, a departure time drawn within the period, and tours decomposed into an ordered chain of trips with one mode per subtour.
Agent-based simulation is usually explained with equations or with a screenshot of a running model. Neither shows why a planner should care. These explainers show the mechanism itself — one person, one day, one score — so that the results on a dashboard stop being a black box.
