Why it matters
What a pilot turns into in practice: operational planning gets current and near-term network checks, feeder changes, stop access and line interaction with a faster turnaround; strategic planning gets BRT, LRT, metro and feeder scenario testing with variants prepared and compared by the team itself. The next project fixes the demand year, the area and the first task, assesses the pedestrian network and sets up regular model releases with trained internal users.
Most of what a transit planner does before a model run — drawing, scheduling, checking reach and cost — is where time is lost between the big model iterations. Seeing that step on a map, with the numbers following the sketch, is what makes the workflow believable.
